Indian Wells California

Incorporated in 1967  it is one of the smallest cities in the Desert area known as the Coachella Valley.  Indian Wells boasts the highest per capita income of any city in the state. Part of the credit of the founding of the city can be traced back to TV legend Desi Arnaz who with several other partners built and opened the Desi Arnaz Western Hills Lodge in 1957. This eventually led to the development of what is now the Indian Wells Country club. The Hotel is now a newer structure called the The Indian Wells Resort Hotel.

President Eisenhower once lived here at the El Dorado and the Bob Hope Golf Tournament was played, for many years, at the Indian Wells Country Club. Indian Wells is home to many beautiful resorts activities and of golf, see more on the city website: Indian Wells California

Indian Wells is a very special place to call home. Homeowners enjoy special benefits and discounts with their city ID card. Some examples are: $35 Greens fees, 20% merchandise discount, 20% food and beverage discount all at the Indian Wells Golf Resort. Spa discounts of 20% at the Hyatt, Miramonte and Esmeralda resorts. Also included are a social club and special resident nights or event days at the tennis tournament, Living Desert, Fourth of July special events and much more.

Today Indian Wells is Primarily a residential community, mostly gated country clubs and has very little commercial development outside of its famous luxury resorts and golf course. See Our Blog Post on The Vintage Club.

In 2000 the Indian Wells Tennis Garden opened and is reported to be the second largest tennis stadium in the world. Currently the major event played here every year is the Pacific Life Open which Has been renamed the PNB Paribas Open. Larry Ellison of Oracle fame and a valley resident is the primary backer of this important tennis tournament. See our blog post about the exciting 2013-2014 expansion coming to the Tennis Garden.

Frank Sinatra had a long history in the Desert. With Homes in Palm Springs and the famous Rancho Mirage compound on Frank Sinatra Drive. This video is the complete show hosted by the late Huell Howser of the California Gold program as an added bonus Frankie Randall is the guide. California Gold was a delightful series shown on PBS that featured amazing places in the Golden state. The videos are a great way to learn about California in a very entertaining manner. The Estate was sold sometime after Frank Sinatras' death, in May 1998, and is now owned by a Canadian Businessman, according to local reports.

Frank Sinatra's home in Palm Springs on Via Colusa is a vacation rental and party rental house. When not rented it is said the owners offers tours of that property. It has been featured on the home tour that is part of the Palm Springs Modernism week as well.

Hollywood Star weighing 34,000 pounds Leaving Palm Springs

Marilyn Monroe is leaving Palm Springs come September!

Well,  the 26 foot tall statue version that is................

Marilyns’ statue has graced downtown Palm Springs since May of 2012 but the end is drawing near. During her stay in the city there have been fun events and plenty of pictures taken around the imposing statue. Palm Springs’ 70th birthday party was held there a few months back and there have even been movie nights held - using the wall behind her as the screen.

Sculptor Seward Johnsons' Marilyn Monroe

Her departure is slated for early September 2013 and a concert – free to the public – is already scheduled featuring some tribute bands with music of the Beach Boys and the Beatles.

Rumours are swirling  that the convention and visitors bureau is trying to negotiate an extension of her stay but for now plan on waving goodbye to our tallest resident in September.

Palm Springs has long been visited by Hollywood Celebrities and this is not the first time Marilyn was in Palm Springs. Legend has it that she was discovered at Palm Springs’ famed Racquet Club in the 1940’s.  Later it is said she lived here part time with her husband baseball player Joe Dimaggio and supposedly owned a home in the Vista Las Palmas neighborhood as well.

Palm Springs California, located just 114 miles east of Los Angeles,  is a great destination for your next vacation or a full time residency. Virtually unlimited sunshine and a great dry Desert climate makes it pretty ideal - check out more on our Website  PSagent.com

Sunnylands Rancho Mirage

Sunnylands was the winter Desert home of the Annenbergs' from 1966 through 2009.   Walter Annenberg was, amoung other things, Ambassador to Great Britian during the Nixon administration.  Even if you never heard of the Annenbergs anyone who has ever driven by the big pink wall on Bob Hope Drive or Frank Sinatra Drive  may have  wondered what was behind the wall.  That question can now be answered at The Sunnylands Center. Free and open to the public (closed in August)  the visitor center is a place where visitors can learn more about Walter and Leonore Annenberg and their commitment to their country, to philanthropy, to education, and to the arts.

The Center includes an orientation film in the theater and selections of art from the Sunnylands Collection. You can also enjoy and explore the garden paths that wind throughout Sunnylands Gardens.

Visitors who have preregistered and paid for tours of the historic estate get to tour the midcentury design private residence that has hosted movers and shakers in the world of politics and entertainment  for decades. Currently used as a private retreat tours are available when the property is not in use.

His career extended into recorded albums - music in film scores, radio, TV and eventually even music publishing.

Waring owned a resort hotel on the East coast and thanks to an interest he had in cartooning hosted a convention of the National Cartoonist Society. Amoung his effects were a great number of cartoon sketchs and drawings.

Ever the entrepeneur he really did promote and finance the development of the Waring blender. He lived in the the 1980s her eint eh Desert and was instrumental in helping rais efunds forthe McCallum Theatre.

Last but certainly not least, he was married to a woman named Virginia who had a creer as a Steinway Piano artist. To this day a Piano competition bearing her name still happens in the Desert, every year.
