2013 Humana Challenge

humana-challenge-logo Formerly know as the Bob Hope Classic this yearly event has raised and donated millions to local charitable organizations. The 2012 Total alone was 2.1 million Dollars.

Under the sponsorship of Humana insurance company the renamed event is taking on health and wellness as a major focus of the event. In conjunction with the Clinton Foundation the event is making Palm Springs a launch pad for a national push to end inequality in preventable health care issues. Certainly an ambitious agenda for any organization much less a charity golf event.

Tickets are still available for the event their website for the last two days of the tournament. Running from January 14-20, 2013 the event brought some 150+ players to the beautiful Coachella Vallley. Host courses were PGA West and the La Quinta Country Club. Televised coverage of the event certainly has focused national attention on how stunningly beautiful LA Quinta and ourt valley as a whole really is.

Celebrities in attendance this year included Tony Bennett, who opened the event at the welcome party, in addition to Carson Daly, Michael Bolton, Ozzie Smith, Craig T. Nelson, Marshall Fowler, Anthony Anderson, Don Felder, Alice Cooper, Ronde Barber and Jay Feely. Humana Challenges Replaces Bob Hope Classic for 2012 Forward

The 52 year old tournament - part of the PGA Tour - has a new name - new corporate sponsor and a relationship with the Clinton Foundation. The new name and format is coupled with a new focus on health and wellness.

This years event will run from January 16-22nd 2012 and as usual will benefit Desert Classic Charities. To Honor the dedication and legacy of Bob Hope there will be a newly created Bob Hope Trophy. Over the lifetime of the Tournament more than $50 Million dollars has been raised with a large percentage of that going to fund Eisenhower Hospital.

The Tournament will return to PGA West in La Quinta and the La Quinta Country Club course but drop the use of the Silver Rock Resort Course.  Other changes include a reduction to a four day tournament, and one of the 4 rounds being Pro only. Happy Easter!

Wishing you and your loved ones a very happy and safe Easter Sunday.

Many of us know the Christian celebration of Easter as told in the bible. But did you now that the Easter bunny and Easter eggs have their roots in the 1600's in Germany? Children would create colorful "nests" around their house and if they had been good the Easter Bunny (who was actually consider a Hare not a Rabbit) would leave eggs. The immigrants to the Pennsylvania Dutch country were the first to introduce this custom to the United States.

It is also thought that the tradition was tied to Spring time, the vernal equinox and the images of fertility that springtime and new litters of rabbits brought on.

It has been just picture perfect in the Desert this week and while the glorious scent of the citrus blossoms is starting to fade you can still catch it in some places. Just one more thing that makes living in the Desert So great.

If you are in the Desert Today don't forget the last day of the Kraft-Nabisco LPGA at Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage.
