Torn Down!

Projected Look When Completed

As part of the dramatic reshaping of Downtown Palm Springs the old Fashion Plaza mall is coming down. This huge outdated structure is coming down very quickly now. While the Hyatt Hotel will remain as will the underground parking structure the rest will soon be history.

Measure J - a tax increase - as passed by the voters calls for a major reshaping of the Downtown core of Palm Springs with new streets, new hotels and retail. In addition it will add funds for parks, roads and other services for the city.
The Hard Rock Hotel is set to take over the hotel Zozo. And the Kimpton hotel group has committed to a new property as well.

Its' a whole new day in Palm Springs. If you have not been for awhile why not schedule a new trip soon! New Restaurants, hotels and shops are already open with more on the way.

Palm Springs Modernism Event 2-16-26-12

Palm Springs is forever tied to and truly is an open air museum of the Mid Century Modern look. From commercial buildings to private homes, stunning examples of this architectural style are part of everyday life in our Desert paradise.

Modernism week grew out of a successful show that was started in 2001 to showcase the style right here in Palm Springs. It has morphed into an international event every February including home tours, lectures, films, parties and of course the show that started it all held right here at the Palm Springs convention center. One of the best parts of the show is that each year more and more Modernism connections are found. For example this year will be the second year that the Airstream travel trailers of that era are on display. Also, this year there will be a special night lighting of featured commercial properties in downtown. Interesting and fun this is truly a not to be missed event.

Many sponsors and partners are now part of the event including the Palm Springs Art Museum and Palm Springs Historical society among others. Kudos to all the sponsors for bring such a relevant and interesting event to life in Palm Springs.

Palm Springs Art Museum - Day Of The Dead

October 30 From 11am -4pm immerse yourself in this interesting cultural event. Best of all it is free and open to all. Thank you Palm Springs Art Museum!  With everything from dancing, music, food and crafts plus specially built altars it is a fascinating look at this Holiday.

Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de los Muertos) is a holiday celebrated by many in Mexico and by some Mexican Americans living in the United States and Canada. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. Read more at Wikipedia

Although the close proximity (Nov 2 is the official date)  to the more widely known Halloween celebration in the United States confuses some people, this holiday has nothing to do with Halloween.  The day opens with A Folklore Ballet outside on the steps of the Museum.  Don't miss it!
