Incorporated in 1967 it is one of the smallest cities in the Desert area known as the Coachella Valley. Indian Wells boasts the highest per capita income of any city in the state. Part of the credit of the founding of the city can be traced back to TV legend Desi Arnaz who with several other partners built and opened the Desi Arnaz Western Hills Lodge in 1957. This eventually led to the development of what is now the Indian Wells Country club. The Hotel is now a newer structure called the The Indian Wells Resort Hotel.
President Eisenhower once lived here at the El Dorado and the Bob Hope Golf Tournament was played, for many years, at the Indian Wells Country Club. Indian Wells is home to many beautiful resorts activities and of golf, see more on the city website: Indian Wells California
Indian Wells is a very special place to call home. Homeowners enjoy special benefits and discounts with their city ID card. Some examples are: $35 Greens fees, 20% merchandise discount, 20% food and beverage discount all at the Indian Wells Golf Resort. Spa discounts of 20% at the Hyatt, Miramonte and Esmeralda resorts. Also included are a social club and special resident nights or event days at the tennis tournament, Living Desert, Fourth of July special events and much more.
Today Indian Wells is Primarily a residential community, mostly gated country clubs and has very little commercial development outside of its famous luxury resorts and golf course. See Our Blog Post on The Vintage Club.
In 2000 the Indian Wells Tennis Garden opened and is reported to be the second largest tennis stadium in the world. Currently the major event played here every year is the Pacific Life Open which Has been renamed the PNB Paribas Open.
