Art and Wildlife For Free This Summer

[caption id="attachment_2718" align="alignleft" width="150"]Giraffe at the Living Desert Giraffe at the Living Desert[/caption]The Palm Springs Art Museum - Both Locations - and the Living Desert are teaming up to make this summer a real winner for everyone. Members of one organization can visit the other for FREE for the next 90 days!
The museum has added new exhibits and has a shiny new statue at the entrance as you can see in the gallery below. The Palm Desert Branch opened just over a year ago and features an amazing sculpture garden.

The Living Desert continues to be a great resource for the Desert with everything from the Merry go Round, cactus garden, animal hospital to the African Village recreation. Miles of paths make it a great way to get your exercise and have a good time to boot.

Details of the joint program are:

The "90 Days of Summer" reciprocal program with The Living Desert is happening now through Labor Day 2013. In participation with The Living Desert, members of Palm Springs Art Museum are invited to use their membership cards for free entry to The Living Desert. Members of The Living Desert are also invited to use their membership for free entry into both of the museum's locations. This promotion is valid only during the 90 Days of Summer (Memorial Day through Labor Day 2013).

Wild Lights AT Living Desert Starts Tonite

The Wild Lights at The Living Desert will open the holiday season on Wednesday, November 21st 2012. In its 20th season this is a great event for the whole family. Enjoy a night out under the stars as you walk the grounds of the Living Desert and see the amazing light displays. Presented by the City of Indian Wells and running on select nights over the holiday season, it is a great night out and loads of fun as well. This year you will see over 750,000 twinkling lights illuminating the park and food and beverages will be available. Look for other special entertainment such as Camel Rides and shows on the following dates: Nov. 21, 22, 23, 24, 30 Dec. 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31.
Hours are from 6pm - 9pm for Wild Lights At Living Desert

The Living Desert is a wonderful community resource. Part zoo, Part Botanical garden its' picturesque setting in the foothills of Palm Desert is breathtaking. Tamale Festival Dec 3-4 2011

Voted in the top ten Food Festivals in The USA the Tamale Festival in Indio is a real treat.



The Festival takes place from 10am to 6pm each day and is located between Highway 111 and Indio Blvd. There will be many activities and events in addition to the the delicious Tamales. You can visit the Festival Site for more information

Rancho Mirage Art Affaire This Weekend

9:30am to 4:00PM In Whitewater Park

This fun filled two-day event is a juried art show and jazz festival. There will be food for sale from local restaurants and a wine and Beer Garden. This will be the 11th year for the event which gets a little bigger and more exciting each year. There will be about 100 award-winning artists in a variety of artistic mediums, including painting, sculpture, ceramics and jewelry. Smooth Jazz music with featured performers Matt Marshak and Shilts on stage.

The Art Affaire is presented FREE by the City of Rancho Mirage Parks and Recreation Commission. Whitewater Park is located at 71-560 San Jacinto Drive in Rancho Mirage.

Dinah Shore LPGA Starts March 28th 2011





Formally known as the Dinah Shore, this is one of four major ladies golf events and was founded by Dinah Shore herself in 1972. Now in its’ 40th year this is the first major event of the womens golf season. This year the event runs from March 28th thru the 3rd of April.

Truly an international event the tournament will bring thousands of people to the beautiful Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage for this televised event.  Tickets start at just $20 and there are packages available.

In addition to be lots of fun the tournament raises money for many charities - this year with an emphasis on Literacy programs. A-list celebrities and the biggest names in womens golf, great golf and lets not forget the weather – what a great bunch of reasons to come to Rancho Mirage for the weekend!

Riverside County Fair held in Indio Feb 18-17 2011

The Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival is  February 18 – 27, 2011 in Indio! 

Admission remains unchanged this year (Adults $8) and there are a couple of opportunities to get an even better deal!

Opening Friday, February 18, 2011, admission will be free from 10am to 3pm. This will mark the third year the Fair has given back to the community by creating this opportunity for their attendees.  A special "thank you" to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, the Fair's Presenting Sponsor, for creating "Fantasy $5 Friday" which will be February 25, 2011.

The Fair features many attractions and events with fantastic food, great exhibits, many carnival rides and headliner  entertainment (included in the admission price) the Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival is ten days of fun.

Latin recording artist, Luz Rios , Third Eye Blind , American Idol  Kellie Pickler and  Switchfoot all presented by Fantasy Springs Casino.

Palm Springs International Film Festival Jan 6-17, 2011

The film fest returns this year, its 22nd,  with an expected crowd of  attendees numbering some 100,000 plus. With a mix of brand new films, other film fest winners and cutting edge foreign films there is an endless variety of films to enjoy.

Award recipients have already started to be named for the Gala black tie awards event to be held during the Festival.   Carey Mulligan and  Jennifer Lawrence are slated to receive awards for break out performance and rising star awards respectively. Past honorees at the event have included Jennifer Hudson, Dakota Fanning, Scarlett Johansson.  Attendees and other honorees have include such stars as Clint Eastwood, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeff Bridges.

Not only is the film festival fun but it gives Palm Springs a chance to shine in the spotlight of international media attention.  Be sure to get your tickets early as many showings will sell out.  Got to the festival website for more information and ticket reservations.

This spectacular two-day event is a juried fine art and jazz festival featuring 100 award-winning visual artists in a variety of artistic mediums, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry and other artistic originals. The best of Smooth Jazz music will be presented on stage on both days, this year featuring the artists:  Steve Oliver and Eric Darius

LPGA - Kraft Nabisco Golf Tournament March 29- April 4 2010

Something for Everyone At The 64th Annual County Fair


The name actual says it all. The Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival has something for everyone. Sure to be unlike any other fair you are likely to have attended.

This event features everything from ostrich and camel races to a monster truck rally, to musical acts from Country music, Latin music and even Rock and Roll. Of course there are Dates and livestock and carnival rides, fun foods and all the other things you would expect to see at a county fair.

This year musical headliners include Graciela Beltran, Kansas , Night Ranger and Rodney Atkins. With many more acts scheduled during the ten day run of the Fair. Admission specials as low as five dollars make this an easy to attend event!

This Weekend It Is The Southwest Arts Festival



The Empire Polo Grounds in Indio this weekend will host the 24th annual Southwest Arts Festival where over 270 artists will be showing and selling their work. The hours are from 10am to 5pm all three days and a three day pass is just $20. Daily admission is available as well.

The Empire Polo Grounds are south of Hwy 111 on Monroe at 51st street. Enjoy the great weather this weekend with a stoll through the Polo Grounds and the Festival.

Palm Springs Exotic Car Auction

A great time will be had by all car enthusiasts February 26th, 27th & 28th 2010 when the next installment of the twice yearly Exotic Car Auction takes place at the Spa Resort Casino in Downtown Palm Springs. Classic Car

Last November over 450 cars were Auctioned. Everything from American Muscle cars to European Antique Roadsters. So come enjoy a great days outdoors in the heart of Palm Springs and take advantage of this unique event.

Palm Springs Internatonal Film Festival

It was a wonderful Desert night Last night - January 5, 2010 for one of the top events of the Season in Palm Springs. The star studded opening night Gala of the 21st annual Film Festival was held in downtown Palm Springs. See a slide show of the celebrity arrival photos for the 21st annual Palm Springs International Film Festival. The Festival runs through January 18, 2010 and will feature hundreds of films in multiple theaters around town. A large international crowd is expected to visit Palm Springs during the run of the Festival.

Celebrity appearances by Anna Kendrick, Jeremy Renner, Marion Cotillard, Mariah Carey, Jeff Bridges, Quentin Tarantino, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren just to name a few. The Gala was also hosted by Mary Hart Of Entertainment tonight, herself a part time Desert resident.

Indio Hosts Worlds' Largest Tamale Festival

The first weekend in December, in 2009 this means December 5-6, always brings a Unique event to the valley. Since 1992 the City of Indio has hosted the Indio International Tamale Festival. If you have never tried Tamales this woud be the perfect time to try one. Did you know that they even make sweet tamales? I did not learn that until I moved to the Palm Springs area in the 90's. Trust me they are delicious.[caption id="attachment_109" align="alignright" width="150" caption="Mexican Flag"][/caption]

Part food festival, part carnival, part state fair this great event has something for everyone. rides, games, live entertainment, a Parade and of course the food! The Guinness Record holder for largest Tamale and biggest tamale festival the event is covered by national media and is great fun for all.
