Palm Springs Modernism Week 2014

Palm Springs Modernism Week: ( or week+ since it is 10 days long!) It all happens February 13-23, 2014 when the world comes to admire what we here locally take for granted everyday. This amazing event continues to grow and expand in all directions.  Last year the event brought in vintage travel trailers and expanded beyond Palm Springs into the Palm Desert neighborhoods with fifties architecture.

The 14th annual Palm Springs Modernism Show and Sale will be held at the Convention Center, located On Amado and Avendia Caballeros, with over 80 exhibitors showing their treasures and hoping to make them YOURS!

The show -which could possibly be credited with starting the whole modernism week (but I am not an expert on the founding of the event!) is just the tip of the iceberg.  The website for the event lists no less than 32 pages of events! From lectures, to films, to house tours, bus tours and exhibits. Everyone is getting in on the excitement with exhibits at the Palm Springs library to lectures in hotel ballrooms.  Fitting it all in will be your biggest challenge.

Perhaps the best part of Modernism week is it takes place in the sunshine of Palm Springs. This will no doubt please the some 40,000 expected visitors, from all parts of the world, who may not see temps like these until Summertime.

humana-challenge-logo Formerly know as the Bob Hope Classic this yearly event has raised and donated millions to local charitable organizations. The 2012 Total alone was 2.1 million Dollars.

Under the sponsorship of Humana insurance company the renamed event is taking on health and wellness as a major focus of the event. In conjunction with the Clinton Foundation the event is making Palm Springs a launch pad for a national push to end inequality in preventable health care issues. Running from January 14-20, 2013 the event brought some 150+ players to the beautiful Coachella Vallley. Host courses were PGA West and the La Quinta Country Club. Nelson, Marshall Fowler, Anthony Anderson, Don Felder, Alice Cooper, Ronde Barber and Jay Feely. Palm Springs Modernism Event 2-16-26-12

Palm Springs is forever tied to and truly is an open air museum of the Mid Century Modern look. From commercial buildings to private homes, stunning examples of this architectural style are part of everyday life in our Desert paradise.

Modernism week grew out of a successful show that was started in 2001 to showcase the style right here in Palm Springs. It has morphed into an international event every February including home tours, lectures, films, parties and of course the show that started it all held right here at the Palm Springs convention center. One of the best parts of the show is that each year more and more Modernism connections are found. For example this year will be the second year that the Airstream travel trailers of that era are on display. Also, this year there will be a special night lighting of featured commercial properties in downtown. Interesting and fun this is truly a not to be missed event.

Many sponsors and partners are now part of the event including the Palm Springs Art Museum and Palm Springs Historical society among others. Kudos to all the sponsors for bring such a relevant and interesting event to life in Palm Springs.
