What Can You Get For 75 Million?

The answer can be found in Rancho Mirage. This new listing is a multi-structure property with a 25,000 plus square foot main home on almost 250 acres. There is also a championship golf course, club house even a stage for your private concerts and shows. Of course pools, spas and fitness facilities are a given

So the answer to the question is quite a lot! This estate was purchased by Larry Ellison of Oracle fame and now is host to his
friends, family and business associates. When Barack Obama was President of the US h played golf on the estate during his trips to Palm Springs.

Actually, the story of this property is quite elaborate and involves another similar property in Montana. You can read parts of that story by clicking here or here. Once owned by the Blixeth family it was part of a contentious divorce and bankruptcy proceedings.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick’s Day is actually the celebration of the death of this Irish saint who was really Welsh – or in what is today know as Wales - by birth. His birth is estimated to have been about 389 AD. He was brought to Ireland as a slave at the age if 16. He is the patron saint of Ireland and the Irish.

After some six years of slavery he escaped to France where he became a monk. In 432 AD he returned to Ireland as a missionary bishop. He brought Christianity to Ireland and taught there for 29 years. The legend says that he used the shamrock, Ireland's national flower, to explain the Blessed Trinity. St. Patrick is said to have founded hundreds of churches and baptized thousands of people.

The first official celebration St. Patrick's Day with a Parade was actually in the United States. Irish soldiers serving in the English army marched in New York City. Later in 1848 several Irish groups in the United States organized the St. Patrick’s Day parade, as we know it today, in New York City. Now many large cities have big parades, etimates are over 100. Chicago and Boston are some of the largest outside of New York .

Fun Facts:

  • It is estimated that over 36 million Americans have Irish ancestry.

  • Leprechaun’s are a purely American invention and have nothing to do with St. Patrick

  • Corned Beef and Cabbage is the traditional meal For St. Patrick’s Day

  • Pubs in Ireland used to be closed on St. Patrick’s Day
  • Palm Desert Sales Stats

February numbers for Palm Desert have been posted on my website and you can see them here

Inventory decreased somewhat and more homes and condos went into escrow than in January. Big time sales activity at Big Horn Country Club with two sales topping 10 million combined. This follows on the heels of Januarys sale of an 8 million dollar plus estate in this luxury country club.

It was announced earlier this month that the Stone Eagle golf course off of Highway 74 in South Palm Desert was closing. This beautiful course took great advantage of it's setting in the foothills of the mountians. They offered memberships in the $200,000 plus range and that surely was part of the problem. Homes in the community (which number just 48) are said to be unaffected by the closure of the golf course.
